"We Have Known Him"

Zahle, June 14-15, 2025

The activities of the Melkite Youth Conference, titled "We Have Known Him," launched on the morning of Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Zahle. Approximately 550 young men and women from various eparchies of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church in Lebanon participated.

After arrival and a welcome gathering in the courtyards of the Our Lady of Deliverance (Saydet el-Najat) Archbishopric in Zahle, the youth assembled for prayer in the Cathedral. This was followed by a speech by His Excellency Bishop Ibrahim Ibrahim, who encouraged the youth to remain steadfast in faith and hope despite challenges, calling them to be witnesses for Christ in their communities through ecclesiastical and social commitment.

At the end of the prayer, Father Sasseen Gregoire , the Melkite Youth Mission (MYM) Patriarchal Mentor, presented Bishop Ibrahim with the conference stole as a token of love and appreciation.

Subsequently, the youth groups dispersed to 16 parishes within the eparchy to meet local youth and engage in formation sessions around the conference theme. Afterwards, they joined parish priests in Eucharistic processions through the parish streets to visit the sick in their homes, pray with them, and administer Holy Communion.

After lunch, the youth toured the historical neighborhoods of Zahle with His Beatitude Patriarch Youssef Absi in a joyful atmosphere of exploration. They visited old churches and neighborhoods and paid a visit to the home of the venerable Father Bchara Abou Mrad.

Later, the youth participated in a meeting with influential figures in Christian media on the stage of the Oriental College. They discussed "The Language of Youth in the New World of Evangelization" with Sister Micheline Mansour, Joe Nassar, Charbel Paul, and Daniel Jreij.

Following this, the youth delegations proceeded to the Shrine of Our Lady of Zahle and the Bekaa for a spiritual vigil titled “Put Out into the Deep.” The first day concluded with workshops on the mystery of the Eucharist, confessions, a procession, and Eucharistic adoration presided by His Beatitude Patriarch Youssef.

On the morning of Sunday, June 15th, the youth gathered at the Oriental College theater to participate in the Morning Prayer (Orthros). Afterwards, a theatrical performance depicted the Resurrection and Jesus' meeting with the disciples on the road to Emmaus, exploring the dimensions of this encounter in the lives of young people.

The participants then split into workshops aimed at learning about the Melkite Greek Catholic Church: its music, history, icons, Eastern rosary, priestly vestments, vocations, and the religious orders work within the Church.

At 12:30 PM, all youth attended the Holy Divine Liturgy, presided over by His Beatitude Patriarch Youssef Absi. He was assisted by His Excellency Bishop Ibrahim Ibrahim, Rev. Sasseen Gregoire (MYM Patriarchal Mentor), and Lebanese eparchial youth mentors: Rev. Omeir Obeidi (Zahle), Rev. Paul Ayoub (Beirut), Rev. Youhanna Alhajj (Tripoli), Rev. Richard Pheraoun (Tyre), and Rev. Elie Khoury (Baalbek).

In his homily, Patriarch Absi spoke about the meanings of holiness in today's world, calling on the youth not to be afraid to embark on the adventure of holiness. He assured them that the Lord, through the journey with Him—the "Road to Emmaus"—guides, heals, and lifts us from our failings. He thanked the committee and the participating youth for this meeting despite all surrounding circumstances, urging them to persevere in parish activities and cooperate to better know Jesus the Savior and the rich heritage of their Church Fathers.

He entrusted them with the conference slogan "We Have Known Him" as a work project for the year: to discover in every moment of life, Bible reading, and prayer how they know Him in themselves and others; to write a daily summary, even if just a word; and to review it monthly. "From this," he said, "we discover the path and the great richness of the Lord with us."

Following the liturgy, Bishop Ibrahim gave a speech thanking His Beatitude for his presence and support of the youth mission. He also thanked Father Sasseen Gregoire for his diligent work for the conference's success and thanked all the participating delegations from Lebanon.

Then, Father Sasseen Gregoire gave a speech thanking everyone responsible for the conference's success despite the difficult circumstances especially zahle youth mentor Rev. Omeir Obiedi and youth eparchy. He also thanked His Beatitude for his continuous support and belief in the work of the MYM patriarchal committee, and His Excellency Bishop Ibrahim for hosting and opening the parishes of the eparchy for the youth work. Commemorative gifts were then distributed for the occasion.

During the Divine Liturgy, the participants renewed their baptismal vows and were sprinkled with holy water as a sign of their repentance and renewal of faith in the Holy Trinity.

Everyone then proceeded to the Oriental College for lunch and a celebration of the joy of the meeting, marking the conclusion of the conference.

انطلقت فعاليات مؤتمر الشبيبة الملكيّة في زحلة بعنوان: " قد عرفناه" صباح السبت ١٤ حزيران بحيثشارك حوالي الـ ٥٥٠ شاب وشابة من مختلف أبرشيات الروم الملكيين الكاثوليك في لبنان.

بعد الوصول والترحيب في ساحات مطرانية سيدة النجاة في زحلة، اجتمعت الشبيبة للصلاة في كاتدرائيةسيدة النجاة تلتها كلمة لصاحب السيادة المطران إبراهيم إبراهيم شجّع فيها الشباب على الثبات في الإيمان والرجاءرغم التحديات، ودعاهم ليكونوا شهودًا للمسيح في مجتمعاتهم، عبر الالتزام الكنسي والاجتماعي.

وفي نهاية الصلاة قدم الأب ساسين غريغوار مرشد الشبيبة البطريركية وشاح لقاء الشبيبة الى المطرانابراهيم عربون محبة وتقدير.

بعد ذلك انطلقت المجموعات الشبابيّة إلى ١٦ رعيّة ضمن نطاق الأبرشية للقاء الشبيبة فيها والتنشئة حولعنوان المؤتمر "قد عرفناه" . بعدها انتقلوا مع كاهن الرعية في تطواف بالقربان المقدسفي شوارع الرعية مترافقين بالترانيم والصلوات لزيارة المرضى والعاجزين في بيوتهم والصلاة معهم ومناولتهم.

بعد الغداء جالت الشبيبة في أحياء زحلة مع صاحب الغبطة البطريرك يوسف العبسي ضمن أجواء فرحواستكشاف لكنائس وأحياء زحلة القديمة وزارت بيت المكرم الاب بشارة ابو مراد.

بعد ذلك شاركت الشبيبة في لقاء مع أشخاص مؤثرين في الإعلام المسيحي على مسرح الكليّة الشرقيّةتناولوا فيها " لغة الشباب في عالم الأنجلة الجديدة" وذلك مع الاخت ميشلين منصور وجو نصار وشربل بولودانييل جريج.

بعد ذلك انطلقت الوفود الشبابيّة إلى مقام سيدة زحلة والبقاع لعيش السهرة الروحيّة بعنوان" سرّ إلى العمق"، واختتام اليوم الاول ضمن مشاغل حول سر الافخارستيا واعترافات وتطواف وسجود للقربان ترأسه صاحب الغبطة.

في صباح الاحد ١٥ حزيران التقت الشبيبة على مسرح الكليّة الشرقيّة للمشاركة في صلاة السحر، بعدهاعُرضت مشهديّة القيامة ولقاء يسوع بتلميذي عماوس وأبعاد هذا اللقاء في حياة الشباب.

ثم توزع المشاركون على المشاغل بهدف التعرّف على كنيسة الروم الملكيّين الكاثوليك: الموسيقى، التاريخ،الإيقونة، المسبحة الشرقية، الثياب الكهنوتيّة، الدعوة والرهبانيات العاملة في الكنيسة.

بعد ذلك انتقل الجميع إلى مقام سيدة زحلة والبقاع للاحتفال بالذبيحة الإلهية التي ترأسها صاحب الغبطةالبطريرك يوسف العبسي الكلي الطوبى وعاونه فيها صاحب السيادة المطران إبراهيم إبراهيم السامي الاحترامومرشد الشبيبة البطريركية الأب ساسين غريغوار والاباء مرشدي الشبيبة في لبنان: أومير عبيدي (زحلة) بول أيوب (بيروت) يوحنا الحاج (طرابلس)ريشار فرعون (صور) إيلي خوري (بعلبك) ورئيس دير الميلاد التوحدي الأب بيار.

في عظته تحدّث البطريرك العبسي عن معاني القداسة في عالم اليوم داعياً الشبيبة إلى عدم الخوف منالدخول في مغامرة القداسة واثقين ان الرب عبر الطريق معه "طريق عماوس" يهدينا ويشفينا لا بل يرفعنا منسقطاتنا. وشكر لجنة رسالة الشبيبة البطريركية والشبيبة المشاركين على هذا اللقاء رغم كل الظروف المحيطةداعياً اياهم على المثابرة على اللقاءات والنشاطات في رعاياهم والتعاون فيما بينهم للتعرف اكثر على يسوعالمخلص وغنى تراث اباء كنيستهم الغني بشركة القديسين. وحمّلهم شعار المؤتمر "قد عرفناه" كمشروع عمل هذهالسنة لنكتشف في كل لحظة من حياتنا وقراءتنا للكتاب المقدس وصلاتنا كيف نعرفه فينا وفي الآخرين ولنكتب كليوم خلاصة ذلك ولو بكلمة ولنراجعه شهراً بشهر ومن هنا نكتشف الطريق والغنى الكبير للرب معنا.

بعدها كانت كلمة للمطران إبراهيم شكر فيها صاحب الغبطة لحضوره ودعمه رسالة الشبيبة كما شكر للأبساسين غريغوار خدمته وعمله الدؤوب لإنجاح هذا المؤتمر وشكر جميع الوفود المشاركة من لبنان.

بعد ذلك كانت كلمة للأب ساسين غريغوار شكر فيها كل القيّمين والعاملين لنجاح هذا المؤتمر رغم كلالأوضاع الصعبة المستجدّة وخصَّ بالشكر مرشد الشبيبة في ابرشية الفرزل وزحلة الأب أومير عبيدي وشبيبة الأبرشية على التعاون المثمر. كما وشكر لغبطة البطريرك دعمه المستمر وإيمانه بفعل وعمل لجنة رسالة الشبيبةالملكية في البطريركية ولصاحب السيادة المطران إبراهيم لإستقباله وفتحه رعايا الابرشية وأبوابها لعمل الشبيبة.ثم وزعت الهدايا التذكارية بالمناسبة.

وخلال الذبيحة الإلهيّة جدّد المشاركون عهود معموديتهم ونُضحوا بالماء المقدّس علامة على توبتهم وتجديدإيمانهم بالثالوث الأقدس.

ثم انتقل الجميع بعد ذلك إلى الكلية الشرقية للغدا والاحتفال بفرح اللقاء واختتام المؤتمر.
